FEMA Emergency Management Training Pathway
Emergency management is an essential component of modern security operations. This progressive FEMA training pathway is organized by position and level of responsibility, providing security professionals with nationally recognized emergency management education as they advance from frontline Guard to Supervisor and Management/Executive Leadership.
FEMA Independent Study courses are provided at no cost. Security professionals are encouraged to register for a FEMA Student Identification (SID) Number and complete the recommended courses identified below. The SID is used to maintain FEMA training records and document successful course completion.

Foundation Level — No prior FEMA training recommended.
Security Supervisor
Recommended Progression: Complete the Security Guard FEMA training pathway prior to beginning Supervisor-level training.
- IS-29 – Public Information Officer Awareness — 7 hrs
- E/L0105 – Public Information Basics (only if applicable to your organization) — 24 hrs
(Prerequisite: IS-29) - IS-120 – Introduction to Exercises — 3 hrs
- IS-230 – Fundamentals of Emergency Management — 6 hrs
- IS-235 – Emergency Planning — 5 hrs
- IS-240 – Leadership and Influence — 3 hrs
- IS-244 – Developing and Managing Volunteers — 4 hrs
Total Supervisor Training: 52 Hours
Cumulative Guard + Supervisor Training: 74.5 Hours
Security Management / C-Suite
Recommended Progression: Complete the Security Guard and Supervisor FEMA training pathways prior to beginning Management/C-Suite training.

- E0101 – Foundations of Emergency Management — 40 hrs / 5 days
- E0102 – Fundamentals of Threats and Hazards — 24 hrs / 3 days
- E0103 – Planning: Emergency Operations — 16 hrs / 2 days
- E0105 – Public Information Basics — 24 hrs / 3 days
- E0146 – Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program — 16 hrs / 2 days
Total Basic Academy Training: 120 Hours / 15 Days
